2017 U.S Department of Energy’s Housing Innovation Awards

The U.S Department of Energy’s (DOE) Housing Innovation Awards has recognized the very best builders for innovation on the path to zero energy ready homes since 2013. These awards are given to forward -thinking builders that provide home buyers with a new level of home performance to ensure outstanding levels of energy savings and comfort.

And this year, we are honored to be one of the 2017 Housing Innovation Award Winners for Innovation in Custom Homes across the country.

In order to receive this award, we had to submit a proposal and pass the rigorous requirements to make sure that our home meet Zero Energy Ready Home program requirements. This proposal included images, floor plans, and proof of ZERH verification from a coastal home build we completed for one of our clients.

Some key features of this home included:

    • High-performance insulation system for enhanced quiet and comfort
    • Comprehensive draft protection
    • Fresh air system for cleaner indoor air
    • High-efficiency comfort system
    • Energy-efficient appliances and advanced lighting technology for energy and water savings.

“These ZERH projects help us innovate and monitor results through rigorous testing. Because of the data we have collected on our ZERH projects from 2015, 2016, and 2017, many of our upcoming homes will utilize next generation heating and cooling systems that allow for more zones, increased control of humidity, and lower energy utilization to make total reliance on solar energy not only realistic, but ideal. More on that to come…” – Jason Fertakos from Garden State Modular Homes, LLC.
